## The announcement

Tesla will wind down the Cybertruck at Gigafactory Texas around the middle of 2027, CEO Elon Musk announced, which affects anyone who owns or wants to buy the truck. [[1]](https://electrek.co/2026/11/06/tesla-ending-cybertruck-production-sales-10-percent-plan/) The Austin plant is the only Tesla facility known to assemble the Cybertruck. [[2]](https://www.theverge.com/transportation/1028542/tesla-cybertruck-winding-down-production-2027)

Musk said in an X post that the wind-down makes room for increased Cybercab production. [[2]](https://www.theverge.com/transportation/1028542/tesla-cybertruck-winding-down-production-2027) [[1]](https://electrek.co/2026/11/06/tesla-ending-cybertruck-production-sales-10-percent-plan/) He did not say whether Cybertruck production would move elsewhere or end entirely. [[3]](https://invezz.com/news/2026/11/06/tesla-cybertruck-texas-production-cybercab/)

Tesla stock closed at $343.69 on Thursday, down 10.77% amid a broader technology sell-off, before the announcement. [[3]](https://invezz.com/news/2026/11/06/tesla-cybertruck-texas-production-cybercab/)

## A truck running well below capacity

Tesla's latest shareholder letter lists more than 125,000 units of Cybertruck installed capacity. [[1]](https://electrek.co/2026/11/06/tesla-ending-cybertruck-production-sales-10-percent-plan/) The Cybertruck line is running at about a quarter of that. [[1]](https://electrek.co/2026/11/06/tesla-ending-cybertruck-production-sales-10-percent-plan/)

Electrek estimates roughly 70,000 Cybertrucks have been delivered in roughly three years. [[1]](https://electrek.co/2026/11/06/tesla-ending-cybertruck-production-sales-10-percent-plan/) Cox Automotive estimates 3,519 US sales in Q1 2026 and 3,744 in Q2 2026, down from 14,416 in Q3 2024. [[1]](https://electrek.co/2026/11/06/tesla-ending-cybertruck-production-sales-10-percent-plan/)

Tesla does not break out Cybertruck deliveries. [[1]](https://electrek.co/2026/11/06/tesla-ending-cybertruck-production-sales-10-percent-plan/) It counts them in 'Other Models' with the Model S, Model X and now the Semi, and that category came to 8,295 vehicles in Q3 2026, down 48% year-over-year and the lowest since Q2 2021. [[1]](https://electrek.co/2026/11/06/tesla-ending-cybertruck-production-sales-10-percent-plan/)

## Pricing moves and Musk's own purchases

Tesla launched a cheaper rear-wheel-drive Cybertruck in 2025 and pulled it months later. [[1]](https://electrek.co/2026/11/06/tesla-ending-cybertruck-production-sales-10-percent-plan/) It then brought a cheaper dual-motor trim to customers in the summer. [[1]](https://electrek.co/2026/11/06/tesla-ending-cybertruck-production-sales-10-percent-plan/)

Tesla raised Cybertruck prices by $5,000 in August, and the dual-motor now starts at $74,990. [[1]](https://electrek.co/2026/11/06/tesla-ending-cybertruck-production-sales-10-percent-plan/)

S&P Global Mobility data showed SpaceX bought 1,279 Cybertrucks in Q4 2025. [[1]](https://electrek.co/2026/11/06/tesla-ending-cybertruck-production-sales-10-percent-plan/) Musk's companies took 1,339 in total, about 19% of US registrations that quarter. [[1]](https://electrek.co/2026/11/06/tesla-ending-cybertruck-production-sales-10-percent-plan/)

## Limits and baggage

The Cybertruck cannot be sold in Europe or most right-hand-drive markets. [[1]](https://electrek.co/2026/11/06/tesla-ending-cybertruck-production-sales-10-percent-plan/) Tesla cancelled it for Australia and New Zealand two weeks before the announcement. [[1]](https://electrek.co/2026/11/06/tesla-ending-cybertruck-production-sales-10-percent-plan/)

The truck has also faced controversy, including numerous recalls for faulty or dangerous components and fatal accidents. [[2]](https://www.theverge.com/transportation/1028542/tesla-cybertruck-winding-down-production-2027)

## What the Cybercab needs

Giga Texas has more than 10 million square feet of factory floor, by Tesla's own count. [[1]](https://electrek.co/2026/11/06/tesla-ending-cybertruck-production-sales-10-percent-plan/) Tesla began operating Cybercabs within its Austin robotaxi fleet in September, and Texas had 463 Cybercabs registered as of late October. [[3]](https://invezz.com/news/2026/11/06/tesla-cybertruck-texas-production-cybercab/) [[1]](https://electrek.co/2026/11/06/tesla-ending-cybertruck-production-sales-10-percent-plan/)

Tesla aims to begin delivering Cybercabs to external customers this year, but expansion faces federal safety scrutiny because the vehicles lack traditional driving controls. [[3]](https://invezz.com/news/2026/11/06/tesla-cybertruck-texas-production-cybercab/) In October, Tesla cut its 2026 capital expenditure forecast to roughly $20 billion from more than $25 billion. ## What this means for Cybertruck owners and buyers

If you own a Cybertruck, Tesla has not said what happens to parts and service for existing owners. [[1]](https://electrek.co/2026/11/06/tesla-ending-cybertruck-production-sales-10-percent-plan/) If you are thinking of buying one, Tesla has not said how long it will keep selling inventory. [[1]](https://electrek.co/2026/11/06/tesla-ending-cybertruck-production-sales-10-percent-plan/)

The production end date is around the middle of 2027, and the Austin plant is the only Tesla facility known to assemble the truck. [[1]](https://electrek.co/2026/11/06/tesla-ending-cybertruck-production-sales-10-percent-plan/) [[2]](https://www.theverge.com/transportation/1028542/tesla-cybertruck-winding-down-production-2027) Musk did not say whether production would move elsewhere.
