A cheaper way into the long-range Mach-E

Ford opened orders for the 2027 Mustang Mach-E, which now offers a standard extended-range battery for under $40,000 [1]. If you have been shopping for an electric crossover with real range, the base Select RWD starts at $39,995 [1]. That price excludes the destination fee [1].

Last year the same battery cost more to reach. On the 2026 Mach-E, the extended-range battery was available starting at $45,345 [1].

Why the price dropped

Ford credits a new secondary front motor. The company said it delivers the same performance as the previous unit at a lower cost [1]. That saving is what lets Ford sell a lower-priced base RWD model with the extended-range battery [1].

Add the $2,045 destination fee and the 2027 Mustang Mach-E starts at $42,040 [1].

Five trims, two batteries

The 2027 Mach-E comes in five trims: Select, Premium, GT, Rally, and a new purpose-built Trail model [1]. Select and Premium use the 88 kWh battery and can be had with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (eAWD) [1]. The GT and Rally use the 91 kWh battery and are only sold as eAWD [1].

The Ford Connectivity Package and Ford Security Package are standard across the entire lineup [1]. BlueCruise 1.5 comes standard on the GT and Rally [1]. It is optional on Select with Tech Pack Lite and on Premium with Premium Tech Pack [1].

EPA range by battery and drivetrain

The 88 kWh battery provides an EPA-estimated range of up to 320 miles in RWD models [1]. Depending on configuration, eAWD models with that battery offer 300 miles [1]. The GT and Rally with the 91 kWh battery provide 280 miles and 255 miles, respectively [1].

Ford has not yet given a final figure for the Trail. It will announce the EPA-estimated range closer to the on-sale date, expected in the first quarter of 2027 [1].

What the Trail package adds

The Trail is offered as a $2,295 package upgrade for the Select eAWD [1]. Ford says it is designed to make outdoor adventures across pavement, gravel, and dirt roads more accessible [1]. With the 88 kWh battery, the Trail eAWD has an MSRP of $45,290 before destination [1].

The hardware starts with fine-tuned front and rear struts and springs, plus a Rally-shaped steering rack [1]. The Trail sits 10 mm taller in front and 15 mm taller in the rear than the base Mach-E [1]. It rides on 10-inch High Gloss Dark Carbonized Gray Wheels with as-cast graphics [1].

The Trail also comes with standard 400W, 12V Pro Power Onboard [1]. On the Premium, GT, and Rally, that feature is an available upgrade [1].

What this means for you

If you want the extended-range battery at the lowest price, the Select RWD at $39,995 is the entry point, or $42,040 with destination [1]. It undercuts the $45,345 starting price of the extended-range battery on the 2026 model [1]. If range is your priority, RWD models with the 88 kWh battery offer up to 320 miles, more than the 280 miles of the GT or 255 miles of the Rally [1].

If the Trail appeals, decide before you order. It requires its hardware selection at the time of ordering and cannot be added later [1]. Ford has not yet published its range, so watch for that announcement ahead of the first-quarter 2027 on-sale date [1]. At the top of the lineup, the Rally eAWD with the 91 kWh battery has an MSRP of $55,290 excluding destination [1].
