A record month

BYD sold more than 300,000 electric vehicles last month, a record, which the article says exceeded total US EV sales in the third quarter.[1] For anyone following the US EV market, that is one Chinese automaker out-selling a whole country's quarter.[1]

Through October, BYD sold 1,953,700 vehicles, up 6% from the same period in 2025.[1] BYD began equipping vehicles with its new battery and charging technology in March, and has posted higher year-over-year sales growth over the past six months.[1]

What is driving demand

Demand for the Great Han is attributed in part to BYD's second-generation Blade Batteries and Flash Charging technology.[1] All Great Han models use a 102.326 kWh BYD Blade 2.0 battery pack.[1]

The Great Han battery charges from 10% to 70% in 5 minutes using that technology.[1] A full recharge from 10% to 97% takes about 9 minutes.[1]

At the 19-day sales pace, the article estimates Great Han sales could reach 10,000 or more in its first full month.[1] BYD also announced Great Tang SUV sales reached 14,000 units in October, marking four months of sales above 10,000.[1]

The Great Han hardware

The Great Han measures 5,256 mm long, 1,999 mm wide, 1,510 mm high, with a 3,130 mm wheelbase, and is slightly bigger than the Tesla Model S and Lucid Air.[1] RWD models have a single 370 kW (496 hp) motor, while the AWD variant adds a 200 kW (268 hp) front motor for a combined 570 kW (764 hp).[1]

The Great Han has a roof-mounted LiDAR and BYD's God's Eye B intelligent driving system.[1] The ADAS system includes Navigate on Autopilot on highways and in cities, plus remote autonomous parking.[1]

All variants include DiSus-A dual-chamber air suspension, rear-wheel steering, and zero-gravity front seats.[1]

The Da Han and its price

The Da Han pre-sales in China opened with a sticker price under $37,000 and three trims.[2] The AWD trim reaches 62 mph in 3.8 seconds and tops out at about 168 mph.[2]

Standard features across all Da Han variants include a 31-speaker Devialet audio setup.[2] The Da Han's rear-wheel steering shrinks its turning radius to 4.95 meters.[2] BYD has planned a plug-in hybrid variant of the Da Han with 470 km of EV-only range.[2]

Hyundai's Ioniq 6 is in a similar price bracket to the Da Han, with comparable shortfalls.[2]

What this means for buyers

If you shop for an EV, the charging numbers are the figures to compare: the Great Han battery charges from 10% to 70% in 5 minutes, and a full recharge from 10% to 97% takes about 9 minutes.[1] If you are weighing the Da Han, its sticker price in China opened under $37,000 across three trims.[2]

For the Great Han, the 10,000-unit first-month figure is the article's estimate at the 19-day pace.[1]
