Ford prices the Fathom electric pickup at $28,350, with a launch set for late 2027
The midsize Fathom stays under $30,000 even with delivery, and Ford says it will cost less to own over five years than a three-year-old used Tesla Model Y.

A pickup under $30,000
Ford's upcoming Fathom electric pickup starts at $28,350, which puts a new midsize EV truck within reach of buyers who shop below $30,000. [1] The $1,595 delivery fee does not change that, because the starting price with it is still under $30,000. [1]
Ford named the Fathom on August 6, 2026, and set the base MSRP at $28,350. [2] That price is for the standard-range model. [1]
The catch is timing. On Ford's third-quarter earnings call, CEO Jim Farley said the Fathom remains on track to launch in Q4 2027. [1] Ford is set to open preorders in early 2027. [1]
What the higher trims cost
Ford said the price of more expensive Fathom versions will reach the high end of the $30,000 range. [3] Ford expects even better-equipped variants to cost less than $40,000. [3]
Ford has not yet specified what equipment will be included in the different Fathom versions. [3] Ford's Frick said it is too soon to share details about the offerings, and more will come closer to launch. [1]
What every Fathom gets
Every Fathom unit, regardless of trim, ships with BlueCruise hardware, V2H bidirectional charging, a 15.4-inch touchscreen running embedded Apple Maps, and a front trunk. [2] All models will also be BlueCruise-capable, with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. [1]
The bidirectional charging lets the truck power a home to save on energy costs or during an outage. [1] Farley said the embedded Apple Maps is a game changer for any EV, especially for a vehicle starting under $30,000. [1]
Farley also said he test-drove a Fathom prototype. [1]
How Ford hit the price
The Fathom is the first vehicle built on Ford's Universal EV (UEV) platform, a clean-sheet architecture developed by a California skunkworks team. [2] Ford's UEV assembly approach yields 20% fewer parts, 25% fewer fasteners, 40% fewer workstations, and 15% faster assembly than conventional Ford production. [2]
The truck will use a zonal electrical architecture and a 48-volt system to cut costs. [1]
Its battery uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) prismatic cells made domestically at Ford's BlueOval Battery Park Michigan facility, using technology licensed from CATL. [2] Ford estimates the Fathom will achieve more than 15% better aerodynamic efficiency than any pickup truck currently on the market, based on internal testing. [2]
Ownership costs and software
Ford said the Fathom will cost less to own over five years than a three-year-old used Tesla Model Y. [1]
Software also matters to Ford's business. Ford had 1.7 million customers paying for subscriptions to its services at the end of the third quarter, 40% more than a year earlier. [3] Farley said retail customer retention can be up to nine percentage points higher when a vehicle is combined with a software subscription. [3]
What it means for you
If you want a Fathom, the starting price is $28,350, and it is still under $30,000 with the $1,595 delivery fee. [1] Preorders are set to open in early 2027, with an official launch expected in the fourth quarter of 2027. [1]
Before you choose a trim, note that Ford has not yet specified what equipment will be included in the different versions. [3] Ford has also not disclosed the battery capacity in kilowatt-hours, the EPA range estimate, or the DC fast-charging speed. [2]
